The formula
Worked example
Cost ₹600 with a 25% markup: selling price = ₹750 and profit = ₹150. The margin on that price is 20%.
Understanding your result
A 25% markup is only a 20% margin. Mixing the two up is a common pricing mistake. If you want a target margin instead, use the selling price calculator.
When to use it
- Price products in a shop or online store.
- Apply a standard markup across a catalogue.
- Convert between markup and margin.
Assumptions and limits
Excludes GST, discounts and other costs. Add those separately before you finalise a price.

Yes. A 100% markup doubles the cost.
How do I get a 30% margin?
Use the selling price calculator. A 30% margin needs about a 42.9% markup.
Does it include GST?
No. Add GST on top of the selling price.
Is a higher markup always better?
Not if it makes you too expensive to sell.
