How to use this calculator

  1. Write each course on its own line as grade, credits.
  2. Optionally add your earlier cumulative GPA and credits.
  3. Read your semester GPA at the top.
  4. Check the cumulative GPA in the panel.

The formula

GPA = Σ (grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits. Grade points: A 4.0, A− 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B− 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C− 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0, D− 0.7, F 0. A+ is counted as 4.0.

Worked example

A (3 credits), B+ (4), A− (3) and B (2): quality points = 12 + 13.2 + 11.1 + 6 = 42.3 over 12 credits, so GPA = 3.53.

Understanding your result

Higher-credit courses move the GPA more. Cumulative GPA combines your earlier quality points (GPA × credits) with this term's.

When to use it

  • Estimate your term GPA before results.
  • See how one more course changes your cumulative GPA.
  • Plan the grades you need.

Assumptions and limits

Uses the common US 4.0 scale. Your institution may weight grades differently. Use the Grade Calculator for the Indian 10-point scale.
