How to use this calculator

  1. Choose a category such as length or area.
  2. Enter the value you want to convert.
  3. Pick the unit to convert from and the unit to convert to.
  4. Read the result and the conversion factor.

The formula

Result = Value × (Factor of the From unit ÷ Factor of the To unit), where each factor is the size of the unit in a base unit (metre, kilogram, litre, square metre or metre per second). Temperature uses °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15.

Worked example

10 km = 10 × 1,000 ÷ 1,609.344 = 6.2137 miles. 70 kg = 154.32 pounds. 100 °C = 212 °F. 1 acre = 100 cent = 43,560 sq ft.

Understanding your result

The "1 unit =" lines give the exact factor in both directions, so you can reuse them in your own working. Results show up to six decimal places.
